As a common special equipment for us to enter and exit shopping malls and train stations, escalators bring convenience to our lives. During the use of escalators, their moving parts will come into direct contact with us. Improper use may cause certain harm to us. So today, let us learn about the safety protection devices on escalators.

1 Comb plate safety protection device

The comb plate is usually held in place by a compression spring. When the tip of a passenger's umbrella, the heel of a high-heeled shoe or other foreign matter is embedded in the comb teeth, the comb plate moves forward. When it moves to a certain distance, the forward force of the steps lifts the comb plate, actuating the microswitch, cutting off the control circuit and stopping the equipment.

2 Skirt board safety protection device

There is a gap between the skirt board and the side of the step of the escalator. During normal operation, the gap between the skirt board and the step is no more than 4mm on one side and no more than 7mm on both sides. To ensure the safety of passengers, escalators are generally equipped with skirt board safety switches, which can stop the escalator immediately if a foreign object is stuck in the gap. In order to prevent people's shoes and calves from contacting the skirt board, anti-contact devices are installed on the skirt boards on both sides of the escalator. Common types include brush type and rubber strip type.

3 Drive chain safety device

The drive chain break protection device has two functions. One is to generate a chain break signal when the chain breaks, so that the auxiliary brake is immediately activated for escalators equipped with auxiliary brakes. The other is to cut off the escalator safety circuit and activate the escalator working brake when the chain is too loose.

4 Step chain abnormal protection device

A safety device that stops the escalator when the step chain is overextended or breaks.

5 Step collapse safety protection device

The step collapse safety protection device is installed on the guide rails at the upper and lower turns. When the steps collapse, the step wheel shaft or the step sprocket shaft will knock the swing arm off course, causing the micro switch to operate, cutting off the control circuit and stopping the equipment.

6 Missing step protection device

When the steps or pedals of an escalator are broken or lost, the problem can be detected in time and the escalator can be reliably stopped through its own control system to prevent casualties caused by collision or squeezing.

7 Overspeed detection device

The photoelectric speed detection device installs a photoelectric disk on the high-speed shaft of the drive main engine reduction box, and detects the actual speed of the escalator through a photoelectric switch. When the escalator exceeds a certain speed, the control circuit of the escalator is cut off.

8 Anti-reversal safety device

Anti-reversal devices are mostly mechanical structures, and some are electronic anti-reversal devices. They use photoelectric switches to detect the direction of the motor at any time. Once an unexpected reversal occurs, the brake will be activated to stop the escalator.

9 Handrail synchronization monitoring device

The handrail should be synchronized with the steps when working normally. If the handrail is too slow, the passengers will lose their balance and fall. The standard only stipulates that the allowable deviation of the handrail speed to the step speed is 0~+2%, and does not stipulate that a handrail speed detection device must be installed. Therefore, escalators without detection devices need to be manually tested during daily inspections and maintenance to ensure that the handrail is synchronized with the steps.

10 Handrail broken belt safety protection device

The handrail is a force-bearing component. It is subject to the long-term action of driving force and friction during operation, and the handrail may break. Once the handrail breaks, the rocker arm will lift up and trigger the safety switch, disconnecting the escalator control circuit and stopping operation.

11 Engine compartment cover switch protection device

When the upper and lower cabins of the escalator are opened, the protection switch is activated and the escalator stops running to prevent the escalator from being opened during inspection. Short circuits or human failures are strictly prohibited in daily management.

12 Emergency stop device

It is usually installed on the apron plate at the entrance and exit. It is a red button. When an unexpected emergency situation is discovered, press this button immediately to stop the equipment immediately in an emergency to prevent the occurrence of an accident or prevent the continuation of an accident.

13 Handrail entrance safety protection device

Under normal circumstances, people will not touch the handrail exit, but children may touch it with their hands, and their hands and arms may get into the gap. To prevent children from being injured, safety protection devices and protection switches are installed at the handrail exit. Once the switch is activated, the escalator will stop running.

14 Protective baffle

The triangular area formed by the escalator and the upper floor poses a risk of passengers' necks being entrapped. Shopping malls must hang "Beware of Head Hit" safety devices and warning signs here.

15 Anti-skid protection device

The function of the anti-skid device is to prevent people from sliding on the escalator cover.
